BREAKING THROUGH THE LANGUAGE BARRIER

This is probably the most obvious of challenges for students wishing to study abroad. As you live, eat and breathe in another language it can certainly be exhausting, at least at first, but rest assured 24-hour immersion in a language and culture is one sure fire way of learning the lingo. Overcoming a language barrier may mean you are struggling to learn a new language pretty much from scratch or it could just be that you thought you were fluent, but find you are unable to understand the strong local accent.

Although there are standard examinations such as TOEFEL,IELTS,GRE,GMAT that a student has to clear before getting admitted in a foreign university, accent and tone of the foreign counterparts maybe very challenging. It takes guts and confidence to work and study abroad, but it can certainly be one of the best things you’ll experience in your lifetime. One of the tried-and-tested ways to improve a foreign language is to dive right in with the native speakers.

Some guidelines for developing your language skills are:

  • Practice, Practice, Practice
  • Work on accents.

There are also various centers that focuses on language improvement for the students. Also they could learn from online tutorials and practicals. Apart from this, majority of the universities now-a-day’s offer courses to improve your language skills. Students can also make use of this properly. Overcoming the language barrier can help your career grow, but it won’t be easy in the beginning. Work to improve it.
